Marquez vs. Pacquiao II

Last March 15, 2008, while we were still in Las Vegas (see previous posts about this trip), we also witnessed the historical Marquez vs. Pacquiao II fight, a follow-up fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao after their face-off last May 8, 2004 where the result was a draw. The second face-off was also held at the Mandalay Sports Center in Las Vegas. Of course, we were there to show our support to our fellow Filipino Manny Pacquiao.


We were early at the event and was able to witness the undercard fights. At first we thought the seats were wasted because it was half empty during the undercard fights, but just as the main fight of the night was about to begin, the whole center was suddenly full.


And the fight began...


It was a suspense-filled fight! Pacquiao was considered a "visiting" challenger because of Las Vegas's close proximity to Mexico. Majority of the viewers were for Marquez and there really was bashing among the viewers who defended their bets.

And the winner emerged. We're glad to know that Pacquiao won! It was for me a very close fight. He took home the WBC Super Featherweight title that night.

Like a usual Filipino show, Philippine celebrities were present to witness the fight, and as expected, they were mobbed by the viewers after the fight.

Fashion Show Mall

Fashion Show is a mall right in the heart of the Las Vegas strip. There's nothing really special with the mall except the fact that is structure is queer and really caught's someone's attention from afar.


The inside of the mall is very spacious and elegant.


True to it's name. We had a chance to see a real and live fashion show inside the mall. Macy's had their line up showcased that day.

The Venetian and The Palazzo

One of the popular hotels in Las Vegas is The Venetian which is by itself an attraction and a tourist destination for the visitors. Inspired by Venice, Italy, it mimics the beauty and architecture of the city and its romantic feel.


Even before you come inside the themed-hotel, you will really feel that you are in a different country from the outside. Gondolas are available for ride over a man-made body water, similar to those in Venice where you get to ride the traditional boats over the canals. If you fancy this ride, best time to do this is at night because the ambience is more special and romantic at dark.

Connected to The Venetian is The Palazzo.


The inside of The Palazzo is different from The Venetian. If in The Venetian, you will feel you are in the streets of Venice, here you will feel you are inside a majestic palace.

Hoover Dam

Located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, Hoover Dam was an instant landmark when it was completed in 1935 because it was back then the world's largest concrete structure. Considered today as one of the world's largest hydroelectric producer, the dam is situated between Arizona and Nevada states and is just an hour or less away from Las Vegas.

On our way for a day trip to Grand Canyon in Arizona, we stopped over for a few minutes at the Hoover Dam.

M&M's World in Las Vegas

During our first day walking spree around The Strip in Las Vegas last March 2008, we chanced upon M&M's World, a four-storey (or was it five?) outlet dedicated solely to M&M's items.

I love M&M's chocolates. I even bought rare color candies when I was in New York. By chance, I also collect M&M's dispensers which are given free when you a couple of big packs at Duty Free Philippines. In this tore however are lots colorful items, some are collectibles and accessories that are branded which I have never seen before.
