November 25, 2007 - after a series of bargains and flea market shopping, my mom, Julie and I went to a Wan Fah Dinner Cruise to celebrate the birthday of my mom. We were led into a pier behind outside River City where we boarded the boat for the cruise.
This is how the Wan Fah Dinner Cruise boat looks like. It is open-air, traditional looking and not as big those of other dinner cruise ships along Chao Phraya river which are more modern.
The boat is huge enough to fit a number of people but just the right size to make the experience a bit intimate.
So the cruise went off to cruise around the Chao Phraya river. While waiting for our food we were entertained by a traditional music playing.
We got this picture before dinner and before singing happy birthday to our mom.
Food were served in a short while. It was a four course meal starting from spring and meat rolls as appetizer.
For main entree, first we were served buttered grilled fish with soy sauce.
And then the main feast, grilled mixed seafood! By this time we were already full but we have to proceed.
Throughout the cruise, we passed by a lot of interesting places.
Holy Rosary Church
Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok
Restaurants by the river
River City and Sheraton
River City and a greeting to King Bhumibol
Another Wan Fah Cruise boat
The Grand Palace at night
Rama VIII Bridge
Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn)
Rama VI Bridge
After the dinner, guests were treated into a series of shows and traditional Thai dances.
At the end of a trip, guests were given beaded flowers as souvenirs and as tokens of appreciation.
For all of us, it was a great and memorable birthday celebration for my mom. We never had a celebration similar to this and it certainly is a welcoming experience.
